The defending World Cup champs are falling apart

England - defending champions in both white ball formats - are 9th out of 10 teams in the 2023 World Cup table, after suffering an embarrassing loss at the hands of Sri Lanka.

The Jos Buttler-led side have not been able to translate their 'Bazball' nature from Tests to the limited overs format, flattering to deceive this year.

Against Sri Lanka, the mighty England batting was skittled out for just 156, which was chased down in 25 overs. It's their fifth World Cup loss in a row to Sri Lanka.

England have now lost three consecutive World Cup games for the first time since 1996, and are practically out of the current edition with four more games still to go. Only Net Run Rate separates them from the wooden spoon right now.
