The Departments of Home and Health are cohosting a 4-day workshop on caring for the older Tibetan people at Dekyiling Tibetan settlement from 14-18 August 2023.
The chief guest at the opening ceremony was Dekyiling Settlement Officer Dhondup Gyalpo. The Settlement Officer in his key address to the gathering stated that health is vital in every community and that programmes such as elder care is initiated to meet the unique needs of elders living in Old People Homes and settlements through which unique health issues can be addressed affecting elders. He urged the gathering to strengthen best practices with available resources from the administration and participate well during the workshop.
The workshop is attended by 52 settlement nurses, community health workers and OPH caretakers from India and Nepal. The workshop will be led by Dr Lobsang Tsering la (MBBS, MPH, PGDBDM). Through this workshop the participants will learn the major diseases affecting the older Tibetan people, identify risks, learn assessment tools, and will discuss preventive and promotive health interventions.
