The Elastico or flip flap: A football trick credited to Sérgio Echigo
Elastico is also known by other names such as Flip-flap, Snakebite, Akka, La Culebrita and Zigima, is a football trick which involves moving the ball one way as if meaning to go past the opposition in that direction, before being whipped back, using the inside of the foot.
It is used to deceive an opponent into thinking the player in possession of the ball, is going to move in a direction they do not intend to.
Retired Japanese-Brazilian football player Sérgio Echigo is credited with the invention of the skill, which was made popular by compatriot Rivellino who performed it at the 1970 World Cup.
Rivellino was said to have learnt the move from Echigo who was his teammate at the Corinthians youth team.
Ever since, the skill has been performed by a number of other players, most notably Ronaldinho.
