Arsenal face Manchester City at Wembley on Sunday afternoon. After a long, draining title race that saw the inevitable champions, Manchester City, take the title, these two sides meet again.
As City won both the Premier League and the domestic double in the FA Cup, the Community Shield requires the 2nd place league side to face the champions.
And of course, the two sides expected to challenge for the league title face off again.
What’s changed in the summer break for both sides?
Arsenal made huge transfer moves in Jurrien Timber, Kai Havertz, and, of course, the club record signing in Declan Rice. Arsenal needed to respond in the transfer window in order to close the gap on the champions in the upcoming season. For Manchester City, they’ve lost experience in Riyad Mahrez and İlkay Gündoğan, but are very close to signing centre-back Joško Gvardiol.
The Community Shield may not define the season so soon, but it will definitely be an early eye test of where both sides sit in terms of intensity, performance, and power.
The test for Arsenal is to build on their league position and further close the gap. For City, they have the know-how and the champion credential to overcome any transitional period with players.
A fascinating battle awaits at Wembley.
