The Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman started her Budget with words, "This is the first Budget of Amrit Kaal."
This is the last full fledged budget of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s led governments second term.
The world has recognized India economy as a bright spot, the FM said. India's growth at 7% in current fiscal highest among major economies Indian economy on night track, and heading towards a bright future, Sitharaman said in her budget speech.
Per capita income has increased to Rs 1.97 lakh. At the same time, India's economy has grown from 10th to 5th largest in the world in the last 9 years, Sitharaman said in the Union Budget speech.
During the budget presentation she announced a huge rise in capital expenditure. The Union Budget has hikd the outlay in capital expenditure by 33% to Rs 10 lakh crore. This would be 3.3% of GDP.
The government has also outlined seven priority areas in the last complete budget before next year's general elections. The areas, Union finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman said, are "inclusive development, reaching the last mile, infrastructure and investment, unleashing the potential, green growth, youth power and financial sector".
The budget focused on broad principles including housing for all with essential utilities such as drinking water supply, elimination of poverty, health fare facilities in village, and steps to boost manufacturing.
FM also highlighted the continuation of food security programme for another year and announced steps for agri startups, fisheries and started a programme for primitive, vulnerable, tribal groups.
She also provided an outlay of Rs 35000 crore to achieve energy transition and net zero objectives and listed green growth among seven priorities of the government.
"With a focus on switching to green fuel, the government is targeting 5 MT of Green Hydrogen production by 2030," Ms Sitharaman said.
