TW for the show: Extreme graphic violence, S*icide ideation, and SA.
The Glory is a 2022 South Korean drama that deals with heavy subjects like bullying and revenge. It is primarily a thriller drama with a tinge of romance and a stellar cast including Song Hye-kyo, Lee Do-hyun, Lim Ji-yeon, Jung Sung Il, and more.
“Years after surviving horrific abuse in high school, a woman puts an elaborate revenge scheme in motion to make the perpetrators pay for their crimes.”
The drama is based on a grave issue—high school violence and bullying—which unfortunately is pretty common in Korea and has been dealt with in various dramas.
The Glory, however, takes it to a completely different level with its graphic and disturbing violent scenes in the initial episodes that are extremely difficult to sit through.
An interesting thing to note is how in these shows, bullies are usually victims of the abuse themselves, so they inflict pain on others to feel better (which is still unjustifiable).
However, in The Glory, the bullies are just rich, spoiled, high school brats who bully and dominate others just because they can. At the end of the day, their wealthy parents are there to pay for all their wrongdoings at the mere cost of a million won.
The protagonist, Dong-eun, is a victim of this physical and emotional abuse, inflicted on her by a group of bullies. They make her life a living hell to the point where she is s*icidal and eventually drops out of school. Years later, she is back with a solid plan to extract revenge and ruin her perpetrators’ lives.
The viewers, having witnessed the injustice, root for her wholeheartedly and are intrigued to see how her plan lays out.
The second part is set to premiere in March, which I absolutely cannot wait for! This drama has a difficult beginning, but I would definitely recommend watching it.
