Exactly how far back do anti-abortion activists want to take us? It’s time to call out those who take away anyone’s choice to get an abortion on the disingenuous grounds that they care about moms and unborn babies.
These are hypocrites determined to pursue a religious and political agenda in a distinctly immoral way.
If their aim is to reduce America’s abortions and unwanted pregnancies then they should promote more contraception and more emergency contraception (the morning after pill). Neither
of these destroys a foetus, this is a fact, not an opinion and neither will lead to the “abomination of abortion.” People who say otherwise are deliberately lying.
It’s not about differing religious beliefs, as some of those who supported Armstrong argued, but about pedalling intentionally dishonest stuff that perpetuates the misery of the living by citing stuff that has no mention in the Bible, Old Testament or New.
Many will remember how the Church was virulently opposed to a campaign endorsing condoms during the AIDS epidemic of the 1980’s, and continues to oppose it even now in places like Africa and Asia, backed by lies from its fanatical army of missionary/evangelist doctors who claim that condoms are made with microscopic holes through which AIDS virus can pass (an official line of the Vatican)- just to protect their “core values and beliefs”.
Dear Armstrong, anyone’s core values and beliefs should not come at the expense or misery of others, even if that means taking care of those who suffer (why orchestrate misery when you can prevent it in the first place?)
If your religion cares more for the life of a foetus, than the health, safety and reproductive rights of a mother (many will recall the tragic death of Savita Halappanavar in Ireland in 2013, after she was refused abortion), then at least be honest about it—that your belief system cares two hoots about women, because they are essentially regarded as inferior creatures, responsible for the downfall of mankind--and pursue your morality-based agenda in a moral way.
