Everybody has weird fascination and stories, and Delhi's metro is full of them.
In Delhi Metro, everyday is like a new story.
And amid all the story, is the story of 63-year-old Anil Marwah who has an unique hobby of its own!
He likes to take the first Metro whenever the Delhi Metro inaugurates a new station or line. What’s fascinating is that he’s been doing this since December 2002- the day Delhi Metro began its operations in the capital, as reported by the IndianExpress.
Yesterday a new metro station, Dwarka Sector 25 was inaugurated by PM Narendra Modi.
Anil Marwah stood quietly waiting for the train at the newly inaugurated Yashobhoomi Metro station in Dwarka’s Sector 25. With him is his bag of records, newspaper clippings, a folder containing all first-day editions of Metro smart cards, and his certificate from the Limca Book of World Records.
His love for Metros began in the 1990s when he was posted in Tokyo for a year when he worked for Japan Airlines.
When Delhi Metro began its operations in 2002, Marwah couldn’t resist being part of history. “We couldn’t believe back then that this could be possible,” Marwah said with a chuckle. “I went all the way from Shahdara to Tis Hazari,” he said as reported by IndianExpress.
The rest is history!
Marwah meticulously keep track of every new station and every new line, making sure to ride the maiden train from each of them. “They announced the Yashbhoomi station in April,” he said. Marwah kept his eyes peeled for any scrap of news regarding the new station and was dot on time on Sunday at 3 pm to ride the maiden train from the station.
Marwah’s love for public transport is deep-seated. Even though he’s nearing retirement, he prefers to travel by the Metro every day to his office in Connaught Place.
For Marwah, the daily commute isn't tedious but meditative. He reads, makes calls, and catches up with work during his journey. Besides, he says, it's better than getting caught in traffic.
