The mythical reason why Paris lost the Trojan war

Eris, the goddess of discord was angry that she wasn't invited to a wedding feast by the gods and thus threw a golden apple among them with the words, 'for the most beautiful.' The three goddesses Hera, Athena and Aphrodite fought for the apple and no god dared to judge who was the most beautiful among them. Finally they were advised to Paris, the prince of Troy who was known for his fair understanding of female beauty. The three goddesses tried to impress him by presenting their beauty but when he couldn't decide they tried and bribed him. Hera promised to make him the greatest ruler in the world. Athena promised to make him the most admired warrior in the world and Aphrodite promised him the loveof Helen the most beautiful woman in the world. Paris accepted Aphrodite's offer and declared her the most beautiful goddess but this earned him the enemity of Hera and Athena. Helen was already married to Menelaus the greek king if Sparta  and Paris kidnapped her from his palace leading to the Trojan war. Hera and Athena sided with the Greeks ultimately leading to the destruction of Troy.
