All title races involve a psychological battle. Each team has to attempt to get the upper hand over their competitors, in any way they can.
Arguably, Manchester City have the upper hand over Arsenal given their experience in title battles and their chasing position. However, this weekend Arsenal can fire a psychological shot back in Manchester City's direction.
Should Arsenal beat Crystal Palace at home, they will be eight points clear at the top of the Premier League table. That is a substantial gap with 10 games to go. Of course Manchester City will have a game in hand having been in FA Cup action this weekend, but the mental advantage could prove crucial.
If Arsenal are indeed to win, the international break would leave Arsenal eight points clear for two weeks. Manchester City's first game following the break? Liverpool. Should a hint of doubt creep into the players minds, this could prove incredibly damaging to their form towards the end of the season.
With Manchester City and Pep Guardiola's experience, you would not expect this to happen. However, if Arsenal can possibly sow any thoughts into the City players minds, they must do it by winning this weekend and taking the chance.
Another important detail to note is focus. Arsenal's exit from the Europa League on Thursday would've been disappointing, but at least provides a clear focus for the rest of the season. Only Premier League games remain and all focus can go towards them.
Manchester City, having been so successful in the Premier League but not quite the Champions League, could not be blamed for sharing a good deal of their focus across both competitions. Progression in the FA Cup provides another focus point for Guardiola's team.
This difference is focus could be another important point as we approach the run-in. One thing is clear, Arsenal can take any single advantage they can get their hands on towards the end of the season, they will need it.
