The Terminal is a drama-comedy movie directed hy Steven Spielberg. The story is by Andrew Niccol and Sacha Gervasi. Tom Hanks stars as Viktor Navorski who is a traveller from a fictional nation of Krakozhia. Due to a military coup in his country, be isn't allowed to leave New York's John F. Kennedy Airport terminal because the US doesn't recognise the new government of his country, he isn't even allowed to go back. The movie is said to inspired from the real story of Mehran Karimi Nasseri's 18 year stay in Terminal 1 of Paris-Charles de Gaulle Airport, France, from 1988 to 2006. The conflict of the movie revolves around language barrier, Identity, loneliness, the concept of no borders and war.
The officials tell him that until he doesn't have an offical identity he has to stay at this terminal. Stanley Tucci plays the character of Frank Dixon who is the field commissioner of the airport, he orders Viktor to stay in the transit lounge up until the issues are resolved. Dixon wants hin removed as soon as possible, he even tells him that he has ordered the guards not to be at the door for five minutes and he can leave and the officials for asylum. Dixon wants Viktor to become someone else's problem. Viktor doesn't get asylum because of his bad English. He starts ro read books and magazines to learn English. After remodeling a wall, impulsively, he's hired by a contractor to work and is paid under the table. He befriends most of the airport staff.
He says that the reason he's in the US is due to a vow, his father had made, to get the signature of all the musicians in a photo but one signature is still left. So, he wants to honour his father's last wish. After nine months, he's finally allowed to go out for one day and manages to get the signature and return home.
The movie when looked at from a critical perspective, answers the question such as the situation of refugees struggling to survive along with protecting their identities.
