Given that you chose to post this on a Wednesday, I'd like to take the opportunity and remind everyone that: On Wednesdays, we wear pink. 🎀🍨
Regina George- the leader of The Plastics and the Queen of her High School, admired and feared by all who know her. She’s ruthlessly determined to make sure that she stays at the very top of the social ladder and will use anything she has at her disposal to stay there. she is not just another high school bully either, she is a master manipulator, she is intelligent and calculating, scheming and self aware. As described by one of her fellow students Damien "She's fabulous but evil".
Regina is a narcissistic control freak raised by wealthy parents surrounded by a group of ‘friends’ who worship her. Her sense of control, manipulation and superiority may have grown as a result of the way her overly permissive and acquiescent environment that allowed her to get away with anything. The special ingredient behind Regina's control is two things – her sex appeal and the insecurity of others. Regina has followers because she understands people's fears and insecurities. She has mastered making others feel inferior and using their fears and insecurities as leverage. It’s clear she enjoys this, several times we see her humiliating her ‘friends’, downright bullying them and turning them against each other. She has arbitrary rules, that she invented to control them and keep them in line and to retain her sense of power and control.
When Caddy-the new attractive student, threatens her and challenges her authority by falling for her boyfriend, Regina’s perfect world comes crashing down. Cady teams up and systematically attempts to take Regina down by stripping her of her friends, her reputation and finally her boyfriend. At the climax of the movie, Regina sends the whole school into hysterical mania and has a near death experience. This is when she decides she doesn't want to play anymore and gives up the crown for turn to a life of violent sports. Mean girls is a cult classic, not only because of it’s iconic dialogues and unforgettable characters but because of how accurately it’s able to capture high school through the eyes of a teen where social status means everything.
