One of the best shows🫡
TVD has a tendency to bring characters from the dead back and they do it using the full creative license which does not seem abrupt. The seeds of a character's revival are already planted. This however means that the characters of interest at any given point are way too large. The protagonists relations with all these characters are extremely dynamic and ever changing. As a result, the emotions involved are way too much which personally made me feel a little bogged down. There is just so much happening, all at once, repeated twists and turns that you actually needs a minute to pause and understand what a particular character wants, who their actual allies and enemies are. The vampires in the show however do have the option to switch all their feelings off by dropping their humanity and turning into a full scale bloodthirsty monster.
The doppelganger plot, the quest for the cure, the moonstone arc are really fun to watch but the biggest problem of this show ironically is its love triangle. The relationship between Stefan, Damon and Elena just seems so much work that I am surprised none of them just really wanted a break from each other. Having said that I did not find myself rooting for either of the couple. In fact my favourite characters of the show are Caroline and Klaus.
For me TVD had a fault in the love triangle itself. However, the storyline ie the vampire related stuff, certain aspects of vampirism, the history of each character and their links though history of time, the setup of Mystic Falls, banes of immortality and setup for The Originals are the highlights of this show. All in all, I would give this show 7/10. If you are done with the absolute best shows of all time, TVD is worth a watch if you are into fiction. However, if you make it though Vampire Diaries you should move on to The Originals which is a spin off and loads better.
