Cognitive behaviour therapy. This form of psychotherapy, or talk therapy, teaches you to identify and change unhealthy thoughts, emotions and behaviours. With a therapist, you will learn new beliefs about your fear and build confidence about facing it. You might also discuss the possible origins of the phobia from your childhood. Therapists usually combine CBT with exposure therapy.
Exposure therapy. This type of talk therapy gradually exposes you to your fear of books. Under these controlled situations, a therapist will teach you anxiety-reducing strategies. It may start with just thinking about books. Once you can manage your fear, you may move on to looking at books or touching them. The goal is to master your fear instead of it getting you. Desensitization therapy is another name for this method.
