Being a Bengali for me it will always be Saurav Dada or Saurav Ganguly the best captain that Indian Cricket team ever had.
And it's just not being a Bengali thing, I mean there are multiple reasons for that.
I am not sure how much I liked him as the President of Board of Control of Cricket in India but as a captain I am sure he was the finest.
Ganguly knew how to maintain the balance, and its just not me saying one of the legendary crickets Sachin said this. It's his words. In one of the interview Sachin said, Ganguly knew to maintain the balance between giving the players freedom and giving them certain responsibilities.
Maybe people laud Virat Kohli for the success of game and the agreession he shows in the game, which has been positive for the Indian Cricket. People forget who was the boss of it?
Well, its none other than Saurav Ganguly. He defines passion, agreesion and intensity in the field of Cricket. It's just not about the records he holds in the world of Cricket.
But it was how Ganguly was handed Indian Cricket team captaincy which was one of the lowest. But inspite of everything and Indian Cricket Team being at the centre stage of the match-fixing controversy, rather than the on-field heroics of the player. Ganguly built a team and took out the team from darkness.
He took the trying tines as an opportunity and centered the team around senior players and along with some excellent young players like Yuvraj Singh, Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Virender Sehwag, who proved to be the masterstrokes.
His innovative captaincy and not afraid to taking risk attitude led Indian Cricket Team to world class level, and created a habit- the winning habit.
India defeated the world champions at home in 2001, drawing overseas series against England and Australia, and defeating Pakistan in their home turf after 50 years.
18 of the 28 tears he captained abroad either drawn or wins.
Under his leadership, team India achieved various unique fears and scaled new heights in Cricket, be it test match of ODI's.
