It's the technology, it's modernity. It has damaged music in more ways than we can count. Take for example, autotune. This artificial enhancement has had a devastating effect on the careers of real singers who rely on their natural talent and voice to get them noticed. Instead, they are now often relegated to obscurity, as people prefer to listen to pop stars that have been autotuned rather than celebs who have true talent.
There was something about music back in the day that isn't there anymore. People are drawn to that music because of the reality element. It was about human connections, joy, loneliness, hurt, humor, rage, happiness, toil, fear, and our need to relate to faith. It was about simply existing about human beings, the deep emotions.
Now it's obscene. Back in the day, even if you sang about sex, it was poetry. Now it's just disgusting.
