Did you get your baby straight away? Or did the birth workers faff around a lot first?
There are so many things that can interrupt skin to skin and bodning and these are just a few. In most cases babies do not need intervention from a paediatrician. If your pregnancy and birth is uncomplicated then baby should be placed on you - you are the best person to regulate their temperature, heart rates, breathing etc. Of course if a problem is anticipated it is great to have the paediatrician there. Things like the midwife taking the baby to weigh, do any vaccines or put a nappy or clothes on is so not necessary - this can and should be done after the golden hour is complete. Family can visit. But not now, this isn't a side show. Baby should not be passed round like a bowl of chips, it should be with mum!
