Let's understand the secrets of migraine relief - Golden rules to follow and pitfalls to dodge!
To Do;
1 Find a calm environment. Relax in a dark, quiet room. Apply hot or cold compresses to your head or neck. Sip caffeinated drinks in small amounts to relieve pain.
2 Sleep Well - Establish a regular sleep cycle. Do anything that can promote better sleep, listen to soothing music, read books, etc. Don't try so hard to sleep.
3 Develop an Eating Routine - Try to eat meals at the same time every day. Don't skip meals. Avoid foods that trigger migraine (Caffeine, chocolate, fermented food, aged cheese, frozen foods).
4 Exercise Regularly - Choose any exercise - Walking, swimming, cycling, etc. Remember to ease into exercise gradually, as very vigorous exercise may trigger migraine.
5 Track your Attacks - Keep a migraine diary to track potential triggers by writing what you eat, sleep pattern, medication you take or symptom you have experienced. Once you identify triggers, try to avoid or minimise exposure to them.
To Avoid;
1 Odours & Bright Light - Avoid strong sensory stimuli, including scented candles, incense, smoke, flashing lights, etc.
2 Weather Changes - Changes in weather can be a doozy on your head. Storms, heavy rain, or winter can trigger migraine.
3 Overmedicate - Too much medication can be as bad as too little. Consult a doctor if you need pain medicine more than 2 days a week.
4 Alcohol - It is the most influential trigger factor causing dehydration.
5 Stress - Stress is a common trigger for migraine attacks. Stress leads to muscle tension and stiffness, disrupt sleep & triggers the release of certain chemicals in the brain that may contribute to the development of migraine.
