"This is for Amanda Nunes": After choking out her opponent, Mayra Bueno Silva says she will take the empty women's bantamweight belt back to Brazil. Holm Holly
Women's bantamweight challenger Mayra Bueno Silva made a major statement by defeating former champion Holly Holm at UFC Vegas 77 on Saturday. In the second round, Holm made a fatal mistake by backing Silva up against the cage. The Brazilian saw her chance and quickly snatched Holm's head between her arms, putting her through a flawless ninja choke that resulted in a tap.
With this high-profile victory, the 31-year-old claimed she belonged in the bantamweight division. As she was being interviewed after the bout, Silva declared her intention to win the 135-pound title for fellow Brazilian and previous champion Amanda Nunes:
"This belt is my belt, [this belt] is a Brazilian belt. This is for Amanda Nunes, this is for my country... this is for Istela Nunes, who today got injured. This is for my coach, this is for my team members [at the] American Top Team. This is for my family."
