The fort also witnessed the 'Vellore Mutiny' in the year 1806. The Indian sepoys rebelling against the new dress code introduced by the British commander decided to war against the British army.
Under the leadership of Tipu Sultan's sons, the soldiers attacked the walls of the fort on the night of July 1806. They killed over 15 soldiers and demolished over 100 British households. This Historical attack stunned the East India Company.
Another speciality of the Vellore Fort is that it houses all three religious centres, a Temple [Jalakanteswarar Temple , a Mosque and a Church [St. Johns Church].
This historical fort at present is preserved by the Archaeological Survey of India. However, the walls of the fort is vandalised to a large extent and is under poor maintenance that demands immediate care and attention.
