Inspiring
I am Abbas Khan
Born and raised in Delhi. Did my graduation from Jamia university in 2001 moved to to UK in 2002 moved to Bahrain 2005, moved to UAE in 2016. have 2 kids (9years Boy and 14 years old girl)
I used to have a very sedentary lifestyle. I was not much of a sporty person and I really do like breads, naan and all kinds of refined flour stuff- like a true Delhiite
I never thought of having Diabetes as I thought it's a genetic disease. But as symptoms started to appear, I then visited the doctor and the doctor recommended some tests to perform in which the Blood Sugar Fasting level was 300 mg/dl and HbA1c was 10.5 mmol/l. The sugar levels were abnormally high in the range of Diabetes. The doctor prescribed me a high dosage of medicine.
I also then visited another doctor. According to another doctor he requires the injection of insulin for life because the insulin secreting Beta cells on the pancreas have been destroyed by the immune system (T1DM) or the whole pancreas has been damaged by disease.
I started taking consultations online. As recommended, I started doing yoga and walking and taking supplements. My diet was changed, it was gluten free. Refined Flour, Corn and Soya was totally restricted.
Within 7-8 months, I was completely out of medication.
My weight came down to 68 kg from 90 kgs and my HbA1c came out to be 4.9 mmol/l.
So what I understand is that, through diet changes and weight loss, you may be able to reach and hold normal blood sugar levels without medication.
I started taking full charge of my health and every 3-4 months I go for a full body checkup because even if you're in remission, which means you aren't taking medication and your blood sugar levels stay in a healthy range, there's always a chance that symptoms will return.
So I will keep watching my weight eating healthy and hope to keep diabetes at bay .
