A prolific and athletic player, Bettega is most well-known for his remarkable tenure at Juventus, the club where he was born. Trezeguet started his career in Argentina at the age of eight with Club Atlético Platense. He advanced through their junior system to their senior squad, where he made his Primera División debut in 1994. Following one season, he moved to Ligue 1 team AS Monaco, where he would link up with international player Thierry Henry to score goals, winning the title in 1996–1997. He departed the team in 2000 after amassing 52 goals in 93 Ligue 1 games, winning two league titles, as well as the 1997 Trophée des champions.
