English professional football (soccer) team Liverpool FC, or Liverpool Football Club, is based in Liverpool. Given that they have won six European Cup/Champions League medals, they are the most successful English team in the annals of European football tournaments. The team has also won the top-flight league championship in England 19 times.
Let’s have a look at 10 players who have had the highest number of appearance at Liverpool.
1. Ian Callaghan- 857 games
Callaghan tops the club's all-time appearances chart with an astounding 857 games played during an 18-year span between 1960 and 1978.
The midfielder was so incredibly durable that he entered the first team while Liverpool was still toiling in the Second Division early in Bill Shankly's rule and left after Bob Paisley led the Reds to back-to-back European Cup victories.
Along the road, there were 68 goals, a prized first FA Cup in 1965, five league championships, two UEFA Cups, and an English World Cup victory, to name a few highlights.
His mark might never be surpassed.
2. Jamie Carragher-737 games
During the start of his final season with the team, 2012–13, Carragher became only the second Liverpool player to surpass the 700-appearance mark.
Nine times, including each of the six years Rafael Benitez was in charge, the Scouser played more than 50 games in a single season as he established his name in central defense.
With 150 games for the Reds in Europe including UEFA Cup and Champions League victories, he also holds the record for most appearances in Europe.
Carragher began his professional career at the Liverpool Academy. He made his professional debut in the 1996–97 season and later established himself as a regular for the first team. When manager Rafael Benitez took over in 2004, Carragher switched positions from fullback to centre defender, where he eventually reached his greatest form.
He won two FA Cups, three League Cups, two Community Shields, one Champions League, one UEFA Cup, and two Super Cups during his time with Liverpool.
