In his playing career, Paul Power has represented Manchester City and Everton. But his great stints came at City when he established his reputation and rose to the top of the game. He played in 447 games and scored 36 goals before joining Everton. In 1986–1987, Power helped City win its first-ever Premier League championship.

In June 1986, he paid £65,000 to join Everton, where his career came to an end. In the 1986–87 season, he participated in 52 games all while winning the league championship and taking home a significant trophy in his 34th year.

Paul Power was regarded as a big-game player who scored goals against inferior opposition to help City develop into one of the most fearsome teams in Europe.
