Cloverleaf Mall was closed due to economic decline, and The New South China Mall has become synonymous with dead and abandoned shopping malls across the United States. Dixie Square Mall was featured on NBC's Today Show for its eerie atmosphere, and Acropolis Mall remains a haunting reminder of what could have been.

Pocatello High School in Idaho is one of the best documented school hauntings, with security surveillance cameras capturing odd activity.

The University of Notre Dame is also known for its hauntings, with spirits of nuns, a “floating” priest and George “the Gipper” Gipp all said to roam the campus.

Athens, Ohio is said to be one of the most haunted cities in the state. The Ridges, formerly known as the Athens Lunatic Asylum, is a particularly haunted location. It was first comprised of 141 acres and eventually grew to 1,019 acres. It operated from 1874 until 1993 and is said to be haunted by many of the former patients and some staff. Haines Cemetery is another allegedly haunted location in Athens County. Ohio University has five cemeteries that form a pentagram around it when connected by a line on a map and is said to be haunted by a Civil War veteran who died in battle, and Texas State University offers ghost tours as part of its orientation program. The Brown House is also said to be haunted by the ghost of Millie Brown, who enjoyed watching the town's children play outside her window in life. Shively Hall is said to be haunted by a former witch being called back to her roots at the cemetery.
