In a regrettable turn of events, Israel has acknowledged that three hostages held by Hamas in Gaza lost their lives accidentally during intense clashes with militants. The Israeli military spokesperson revealed on Friday that, amid the chaos of battle, the hostages were mistakenly identified as a threat, leading to fatal gunfire. The incident is currently "under review," according to official statements.
The conflict originated when Hamas militants initiated an attack on Israel on October 7, resulting in approximately 1,200 casualties, predominantly civilians, and the abduction of around 240 hostages.
Responding with determination to dismantle Hamas, Israel launched a massive aerial and ground offensive, causing extensive damage. The operation has tragically claimed over 18,600 lives, with a majority being women and children, as reported by Gaza's health ministry.
In a recent development, 110 hostages have been freed, with 105 of them released through an exchange for Palestinians held in Israeli jails during a seven-day truce. Among those liberated, 33 are children, 49 are women, and 28 are men.
Despite these efforts, Israeli officials state that approximately 135 hostages still remain in Gaza. The situation continues to unfold, with the accidental deaths of the three hostages adding a somber note to the already devastating conflict.
