Accompanied by his 16-year-old son, Xavier James Trudeau, this visit marks Trudeau’s return to India, with his previous visit taking place in 2018 when he was accompanied by his now-estranged wife, Sophie Grégoire Trudeau. Trudeau’s visit to India follows his participation in the ASEAN summit in Jakarta, Indonesia, and a bilateral visit to Singapore.

Focus on Strengthening International Partnerships

Trudeau’s visit to India is part of his efforts to strengthen ties with international partners. The G20 Summit in New Delhi, held under the theme ‘One Earth, One Family, One Future,’ provides an opportunity for leaders to address global challenges and work towards building a better future for people worldwide. The Canadian Prime Minister aims to collaborate with international partners to address pressing global issues.

Ahead of the summit, Trudeau expressed his disappointment over the exclusion of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy from the event. During a telephone conversation with Zelenskyy, Trudeau voiced his support for Ukraine’s involvement in the summit. The issue of Ukraine’s participation remains a topic of international concern.

Trudeau’s visit to India comes after his announcement of his separation from his first lady, Sophie Grégoire Trudeau, in August. He emphasized that his top priority would be his children. While in India, Trudeau and his son experienced traditional Indian dance performances and were warmly received by Indian officials.
