Biden, 81, expressed his support for Harris, 59, in a post on Sunday afternoon, following an open letter to Americans explaining his decision.

"Today I want to offer my full support and endorsement for Kamala to be the nominee of our party this year. Democrats, it's time to come together and beat Trump. Let's do this," Biden posted on X.

The Trump campaign had already begun discussions about how it would redeploy campaign resources for the possibility of Biden's dropping out, reported Reuters.

Advisers and allies of the Trump campaign have publicly assured reporters they are unconcerned about confronting Harris, intending to closely associate her with Biden's record, especially on issues like immigration and inflation, according to Reuters.

In a statement following Biden's decision to step aside, the Trump campaign labeled Harris as Biden's "enabler in chief," emphasizing their shared accountability for each other's political records.

In recent weeks, Trump's campaign and allies have launched preemptive political attacks on Harris amid speculation that she could replace Biden as the Democratic nominee for the 2024 presidential election.
