Ultra runners Nadaf Joshy conquer Goa's sandy terrain - Tuffman beach run
Karnataka’s ultra runner Aman Nadaf and Kerala’s Mary Joshy clinched the top honours in the men’s and women’s 50km beach ultramarathon category, respectively, in the sixth edition of the Tuffman Goa Ultramarathon and half marathon run held on Sunday.
Nadaf, who hails from Belgaum in Karnataka, clocked 05:53:23 sec to grab top position in the men’s 50km ultramarathon. Anenthu S of Kerala followed him closely and finished the run in second place, clocking 05:55:46 sec. Kaladhar Bomma (07:24:56 sec) of Telangana finished third.
In the women’s ultramarathon (50km), Joshy, who works in Saudi Arabia, clocked 06:59:22 sec for first place, while Bangladesh’s ultra runner Sifat Fahamida Naosin (07:40:27) finished second.
Navendu Ayush (02:50:33) won first position in the men’s 30k run, while Renu Rajguru (04:16:43) finished first in the women’s run.
“Tuffman Goa is one of India’s toughest beach runs and running on sandy terrains for long distances is really tough. Finishing the run at cutoff time is in itself a great achievement,” said Sanjay Mangla, founder of Tuffman and himself an ultra runner. “The route was full of cool breeze, sand, sun, waves & shacks.”
The half marathon was captured by the local runners.
Hari Chandra (01:33:03 sec) won top place in the men’s section, while Shilpa Rao (02:27:04) finished first in the women’s category.
Uttar Pradesh’s Hamid Raza won first position in the men’s 10km run, while American runner Annemarie Shepherd finished first in the women’s section.
