The U.S. and European Union countries are facing a massive slowdown in the pace of new coronavirus vaccinations, however, countries in Asia and Latin America are keeping up the pace and are coming into range to overtake earlier adopters towards a fully immunized population.
Japan, which was the face of ill vaccination success for most of 2021, has now vaccinated a higher share of its population than the United States and, at a vaccination rate of almost 62%, is poised to overtake the European Union average rate as well. Hot on its heels is South Korea at a 53% vaccination rate that's still climbing fast.
