Vinicius dances on hatred as Madrid wears white yet again
The pre-game coverage of the Madrid derby in the Copa del Rey was marred by racist gestures towards Vinicius Junior once again by a section of Atletico Madrid fans.
Atleti had a good first half and even led through Alvaro Morata, but Real came back strong, Rodrygo dribbling through the heart of the Diego Simeone's team to equalise. Karim Benzema and Vinicius then won it for Los Blancos in extra time at the Bernabeu with Savic getting sent off for Atleti.
Real join Athletic Club, Barca and Osasuna in the semifinals but the far more pressing thing emerging from this is to do with Spanish football's extreme inability in actually dealing efficiently with it. Vinicius had to bear the brunt of it, like he has had to an unfortunately large number of times this season. And on Thursday yet again, he was there, dancing upon the haters and guiding Real to victory.
Atleti now have 1 win in their last 11 against Real and this defeat means they only have UCL qualification to play for this season.
