Keeping the word of India's new head coach, Gautam Gambhir, senior players after Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli has also decided to cut short his break and play the three-match ODI series against Sri Lanka, scheduled to be played in August.
As reported by Express Sports, Virat Kohli - alongside Rohit Sharma - has made himself available to play the ODIs, which would be the maiden assignment for Gautam Gambhir as coach in the 50-over format.
This report become even more interesting as the India senior pros - Rohit Sharma, Kohli and Jasprit Bumrah - were expected to miss the forthcoming series. However, the two batting greats will be seen in Indian colours for the first time since their T20I retirement during the ODI against the Lankans.
Meanwhile, India's bowling maestro, Bumrah will not participate in T20Is or ODIs against Sri Lanka.
The report further stated that Rishabh Pant, who made his comeback for India in the T20 World Cup, and the upcoming Riyan Parag will feature in both T20I and ODI squads. And, Suryakumar Yadav will get his nod ahead of Hardik Pandya to become Rohit's successor in T20Is.
The ODIs against Sri Lanka are highly heeded, as India is scheduled to play just six ODI games before the Champion Trophy 2025.
