The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) said it is carrying out a campaign against dengue, malaria and other mosquito-borne diseases on a 'war footing' as the number of dengue, malaria and chikungunya cases in Delhi currently remain unknown.
The Corporation added that its public health department carried out an 'intensive checking campaign' in 197 police stations in its 12 zones, out of which 83 sites were found to be in mosquito-genic conditions, as reported by IndianExpress.
So far, nearly 3 crore house visits have been conducted, over 14 lakh houses have been sprayed with insecticides and 1.3 lakh legal notices have been issued, MCD said.
Fines have also been levied on over 22,000 defaulters which has helped the MCD collect a sum of over rupees 73 lakhs. Further, larva eating fishes have survived at 203 locations, according to MCD.
The MCD said it has also analysed data related to mosquito breeding which revealed that 40% of drums, haudis and jerry cans were found with mosquito breeding, followed by 35% desert coolers and construction sites and 15% flower pots.
However, the MCD has not released its weekly vector-borne disease (VBD) report in 6 weeks as of now, due to which the number of dengue-malaria-chikungunya cases remain unknown.
