Harmanpreet Kaur is safe as houses when it’s about out-fielding and she gave an account of her skills in the Women’s Premier League (WPL) match between Mumbai Indians and UP Warriorz on Saturday, March 18 at the Dr DY Patil Sports Academy in Mumbai.
The MI skipper pulled off one of the better slip catches one could expect. In the second over of the Warriorz run-chase, off-spinner Hayley Matthews floated one outside the off-stump and left-handed batter Devika Vaidya went for a full-blooded cover drive.
But all Vaidya could get was a thick outside edge. The ball went quickly off the bat and it needed a spectacular effort in the slip cordon to catch the ball. Harmanpreet was alert and she pulled off a dive on her right to catch hold of the ball.

The back stuck to her finger-tips and Vaidya had to go back to the hut. Matthews, Harmanpreet and the rest of the MI players were absolutely ecstatic. Vaidya scored only one run off seven balls before biting the dust.
Warriorz end MI’s winning streak
The Mumbai-based team started its campaign with five wins in a row. They also became the first team to advance to the playoffs of the inaugural WPL. But the Warriorz halted their winning streak after beating them by five wickets.
Deepti Sharma became the Player of the Match after she finished with figures of 4-0-35-2 and scored 13 runs off 14 balls. Deepti picked up the all-important wicket of Harmanpreet, who was looking ominous, having scored 25 with three fours.
After being asked to chase down 128, the Warriorz romped home with three balls left. After playing two dot balls in the last over, Sophie Ecclestone hit fast bowler Issy Wong for a six down the ground to seal the fate of the match.
