What would you have liked help with when as a new parent?
There is nothing more exciting than going to see friends and family when they have had a new baby. There is lots of cuddles and passing baby around. Lots of baby selfies and gifts. And quite often, with all the focus on baby, the new parents are sidelined.
The tricky part about the fourth trimester is that we often couldn't tell if someone is struggling. Nor do we like to admit we need help sometimes.
So here are 6 things you can do to help out a new parent and get your oxytocin fix with all the baby cuddle.
- Make them a hot meal
- Do the dishes/laundry
- Let them nap
- Run them a bath
- Help with the other kids
- Deliver coffee
Time to rest and sleep is possibly the greatest gift you can give a new (and possibly frazzled) parent. Tied with doing the dishes and the laundry. A small helping hand can make a new parents day go from crappy to happy. So next time you go for a visit go with food for dinner, a coffee or just an offer of your time with baby so they can get their head down!
