I am Jagdip Singh

I am in a Post of City Project Manager. I am currently working in Rajasthan, Ajmer in Kishangarh District . I am associated with Cfar for about an year conducting the Women Violence Programme under 10 Gram Panchayat in Rajasthan.

We focus on eradicating 4 components of Voilence prevalent in Rajasthan- Violence and Harassment in Workplace, child marriage, Dayan Pratha and Domestic Voilence.

Majority cases are of Domestic Violence. These cases are also most due to some kinds of Pratha being followed in rural areas such as Aata Saatha Pratha and Dayan Pratha. We are on our mission to eradicate Aata Saata Pratha. This age old tradition of ‘aata saata’ is now becoming a way of life in Rajasthan rural areas.

Aata saata is a system where a family enters into an alliance of their daughter only when the other family pledges to give them a daughter to be married in their family. This creates several disputes in the family and women suffer much in this Pratha.

We have also observed in the rural areas that some women from Bihar, Jharkhand were illegally forced to get married to some person staying in Rajasthan by their families getting huge money in return.

In most such cases where such Women get rescued by us cannot be returned back to their home as they got sold by an unknown mediator. These women are brought into Narishala and made to learn some skills so that they can learn to live independently.

The condition of Women in villages is not good. Women are not comfortable and they feel shy .Development is happening but still many villages but there is scope for so much more. Women don’t talk about domestic violence. There are not many support groups to help them. Women don’t easily agree to tell us what’s going on in there life. Our staff is always on the go following up with them. We hope to make some positive difference in the lives of these women and help change mind sets to stop the violence against them
