We may believe that reading for knowledge is the best reason to pick up a book when it comes to reading. However, research suggests that reading fiction may provide far more significant benefits than reading nonfiction. Reading fiction, for example, predicts increased social acuity and a better understanding of other people's motivations. While reading nonfiction is beneficial for acquiring knowledge, it does little to develop EQ, a far more elusive goal.
