On World Education Day, coinciding with January 24, the World Food Programme (WFP) reveals that many children in Afghanistan go to school hungry. The organization emphasizes that every morning, it distributes "nutritious biscuits" to 700,000 male and female students.
The WFP states that the distribution of biscuits for schoolchildren encourages families to send their children to school. With the Taliban's control in Afghanistan, poverty and unemployment have significantly risen, leading the majority of the population to rely on humanitarian assistance.
As World Education Day arrives, it's noteworthy that the Taliban in Afghanistan has barred girls above the sixth grade from attending school. The group also prohibits female students from going to university.
Despite widespread condemnation, both domestically and internationally, of the ban on the education of girls and women, the Taliban has not backed down from its decision.
