Re-experiencing
Re-experiencing is one of the most typical symptom of PTSD. This is a form where a person involuntarily and vividly relives the traumatic event through flashbacks, nightmares and distressing images.
Avoidance and emotional numbing
Another key symptom of PTSD is trying to avoid being reminded of the traumatic event. This means avoiding certain people or places that reminds you of the trauma or by avoiding to talk to anyone about the experience.
Hyperarousal (feeling "on edge")
A person with PTSD could be very anxious and can find it difficult to relax as they may be constantly aware of threats and can get easily startled.
Other problems
Many people that are with PTSD also have number of other problems, which includes the following:
• Other mental problems like depression, anxiety or phobias.
• Self harm or destructive behaviour like drug misuse or alcohol misuse
• Other kind of physical symptoms like headaches, dizziness, chest pains and stomach aches
