Mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR) is complementary therapy that uses mindfulness techniques to help people to cope with mental or physical health conditions.
Jon Kabat Zinn, a professor, developed MBSR in 1980s. This program is structured and it involves group sessions and daily meditation over a set time.
MBSR promotes people to be more aware about their present by letting go of their worry about their past or future. It could also teach people to observe their thoughts, feelings and bodily sensations in a non judgemental way. This leads to stress reduction and may reduce other sums like chronic pain.
