Obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) is a mental health condition which involves obsession or compulsion, distressing actions and repetitive thoughts. It could be a challenge for a person with OCD to carry out routine tasks. It can also make a person do unwanted, compulsive physical actions like repeated safety checks or avoiding germs.
An estimate of 2% of the population have OCD. About half of the time, the symptoms appear during childhood or adolescence and this rarely happens after the age of 40.
OCD is an anxiety disorder and it is one of the several conditions which involves obsessive thoughts and compulsive behavior.
Having OCD could affect a person's quality of life and their well-being being.
A person with OCD typically:
• Gets thoughts, images and urges that they unable to control
• Doesn't want any of these intrusive thoughts and feelings.
• Experiences discomfort which possibly involves fear, disgust, doubt or a conviction that things has to be done in a certain way.
• Spends a lot of time focusing on obsessions and engages in compulsions, which interferes with their personal, social and professional activities.
