What is schizophrenia and do you know anyone who has it??
Schizophrenia is a severe mental disorder in which people abnormally interpret reality. Schizophrenia may result in a group of hallucinations, delusions, and severe disturbances in thinking and behavior, which impedes the performance of daily functions, and can cause disability. People with schizophrenia require lifelong treatment. Early treatment can help control symptoms before serious symptoms appear and improve long-term appearance. The exact cause of schizophrenia is not known, but researchers believe that a combination of genetics, environmental factors and other brain chemistry factors contribute to the disorder. Problems with certain naturally occurring brain chemicals, including neurotransmitters called dopamine and glutamate, may contribute to schizophrenia. Neuroimaging studies show changes in the brain structure and central nervous system of people with schizophrenia. The researchers suggest that schizophrenia is a brain disease, although they are not sure of the significance of these changes.
