What is the strangest battle that occurred in history?
The Battle of Tondibi is considered one of the strangest wars in history. The battle took place between the Saadian army and the Songhai Empire in West Africa. The goal of the Saadians in the war was to control the trade routes and gold mines in West Africa. The Saadian state was between the hammer of the Spanish in the north and the anvil of the Ottomans in the east. Ahmed Al-Mansur Al-Saadi had no choice but to direct his army towards West Africa to enrich the state treasury, while he was the dominant force in West Africa for more than a century. It was Songhai who took command of the Saadian army, the veteran Morisco commander, Jodar Pasha. The number of Moroccan soldiers was about 6,000, while the number of soldiers of the Songhai Empire was more than 20,000. What is strange is not the numerical difference, but rather the way in which the Songhai army was defeated in the period (1591). Guns and cannons were not in the possession of the Songhai army. In contrast, the Moroccan army had six cannons. In addition to guns. When the two armies met, the Songhai army fired its deadly weapon, more than a thousand heads of buffalo, towards the Moroccan forces. The Moroccans did nothing but fire gunpowder and some artillery shells at the rampaging herd, which became terrified and changed its direction towards the Songhai forces, where they destroyed their defences. This facilitated the mission of the Moroccan army to achieve a sweeping victory that led to the fall of the Songhai Empire under the Saadian banner.
