There's only a fine line that's present between anxiety and stree. Both of them are emotional responses, but stress could be caused by an external trigger. The trigger can be short term like work deadline or a fight with your loved one or long term like unable to work, discrimination or chronic illness. Those who are under stress could experience mental and physical symptoms like irritability, anger, fatigue, muscle pain, digestive troubles and difficulty to sleep.
Whereas, anxiety is defined by a persistent, excessive worries which don't go away even in the absence of a stressor. Anxiety could lead to a similar set of symptoms as stress such as insomnia, difficulty in concentrating, fatigue, muscle tension and irritability.
Both mild stress and mild anxiety can respond well to coping mechanisms. Physical activity is a nutritious and varied diet and good sleep hygiene is a good starting point, but there are other coping mechanisms that are available.
If your stress or anxiety doesn't respond to any of these management techniques or if you feel so that your stress or anxiety is affecting your day to day functioning or mood then it's better to seek mental health professional help who can provide you with additional coping tools.
As per a data from the National Institute of Mental Health, almost 31% of Americans has a possibility to experience an anxiety disorder during their lifetimes.
