With so many heads of the countries coming in Delhi for the G20 Leaders Summit, there is high security all around the National Capital.
But have you ever thought what if there is any crisis situation in hotels with such big world leaders staying, how will India deal with it?
As per reports by the TimesofIndia, the security establishment will place covert "House Intervention Teams" or HIT squads inside all city hotels with G20 guests to deal with any hostage crisis during the summit.
They will be activated on specific instructions from the highest level in extreme situations and will have kill orders.
The squads will have commandos from the National Security Guard (NSG) and Delhi Police with skills for fighting in built-up areas and in urban warfare. "The commandos are trained in house intervention. They storm confined spaces to neutralise terrorists and rescue hostages," an official privy to the developments said.
The squads will be different from the special weapons and tactics (SWAT) teams stationed outside the hotels to counter any threat on the streets, the official added.
The HIT members will be equipped with weapons such as Israeli Tavor TAR-21 assault rifles and American Glock 17 pistols and some of the members will have Glocks equipped with "corner-shots", which are helpful when taking aim from different angles in a short-range battle.
In the event of a hostage situation in a hotel, these urban interventions will be backed up by snipers at strategic locations having a clear view of the hotel galleries. They will be equipped with Heckler & Koch PSG-1 snipers and Dragunov SVD rifles that have an effective range of 800 metres.
The hazards of strikes in confined spaces often allow for a limited window in which a rescue has to be done. "Time is of essence here and thus the commandos engaging in urban warfare are trained in short-duration rescues that require the using of smoke grenades and other equipment to create a cover and hit the target in the shortest possible time," another official attached to SWAT said.
