Komodo Dragons, while being extremely dangerous, venomous and bloodthirsty, have not been able to hunt humans much. Some of it thanks to our own abilities and consciousness, other – mainly – because they don't exactly need us. They have enough to eat in their territory. Maybe also that they understand it's hard to hunt humans? Who knows.
However, a human is still an easy meal for a Komodo Dragon, especially when alone. And it becomes easier for the monster when the human is just a kid.
On Komodo Island, a dragon mauled an 8-year-old boy in 2007, the first fatal attack on a person in 33 years. Wild rangers and officers believe that since the incident took place in the dry season of March, the predatory lizard may have been especially hungry because the irrigation holes where prey usually congregates had dried up. When the boy ducked behind a bush to use the restroom, the dragon charged. It's possible that it has been preying on it for a while, following it or maybe it just happened to be there.
The boy's friends, who were playing together in some nearby scrubland, hurried to ask their parents for help who rushed to rescue the boy. When the lizard refused to release the little boy, the boy's uncle sprang into action and flung pebbles at it.
However, the boy – according to news – died from excess bleeding, while the locals say they remember seeing him bitten in half.
