Did you know that you don't need to wash your newborn baby straight away? In fact we actively encourage you to wait and there are several reasons for this;

1 Babies cannot regulate their own temperature. Exposing them to water can lead to rapid heat loss and baby will become too cold and this can affect their blood sugars too.

2 Vernix is amazing! The sticky, waxy white substance on your baby's skin is a natural barrier against bacteria and it can help moisturise baby's skin! Don't rub it off.

3 Removing baby from mum to wash it immediately interferes with skin to skin, breastfeeding and bonding.

4 It is something you should enjoy and do together as parents.

Remember babies aren't "dirty" when they are born. Whilst birth isn't sterile it is not something that is unclean or contaminated either.
