Two BJP Chief Ministers are said to be in the danger zone not for mishandling the Covid-19 pandemic but for other reasons.
The social media was abuzz with speculation over the two names.
The speculation that one of them could be Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar intensified after he was summoned to Delhi by Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
Khattar told reporters that he met Shah to discuss the ongoing farmers’ agitation, especially the incident in Hisar.
The two discussed the farmers' agitation and measures taken by the Haryana government to keep the situation under control.
Besides, Khattar also apprised Shah of the present Covid-19 situation in Haryana and arrangements made by the state government to contain the virus.
Violent clashes erupted between farmers and police in Hisar on Sunday and the cops resorted to tear gas and lathi charge to control the situation. Farmers estimated to be around 3,000 in number had gathered to protest against the visit of chief minister to inaugurate a 500-bed temporary Covid care hospital set up on the campus of Om Prakash Jindal Modern School in Hisar on Sunday.
Around 50 farmers and 20 cops, including a police officer and five women cops, were injured in the clashes that continued for nearly two hours. The cops also detained 65 farmers.
Khattar is also said to have met BJP President JP Nadda.
The opposition parties have demanded Khattar's resignation over the incident.
The other name doing the rounds is Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb.
It is said that the BJP leadership is worried that the results of the assembly elections in West Bengal might impact the outcome in Tripura where polls will be held in 2023.
The Trinamool Congress is expected to fight the state elections in a big way and put up a stiff challenge to the BJP. The Left and the Congress are the other parties that would try to oust the BJP.
The central leadership is also upset with Deb over his controversial remarks, especially on Nepal, that triggered a diplomatic row.
In February, he claimed the BJP has plans of forming governments in Sri Lanka and Nepal.
