He made significant contributions to boundary layer research and was renowned as a professor at the Indian Institute of Science. His leadership led to achievements like INSAT and IRS satellites and the Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV).

Following his passing in 2002, the satellite launch center in Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh, was renamed the Prof.

Satish Dhawan Space Centre, honoring his lasting impact on Indian space endeavors.
