Dr. K. Sivan held pivotal roles in India's space endeavors from January 2018 to January 2022, serving as Secretary, Department of Space, Chairman of the Space Commission, and Chairman of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO).
He commenced his ISRO journey in 1982, specializing in Aerospace engineering, Space Transportation Systems Engineering, launch vehicle and mission design, control systems, and mission simulation software.
Dr. Sivan made significant contributions to mission planning, design, integration, and analysis.
His innovative strategies in mission design greatly enhanced the performance of ISRO's PSLV and laid the foundation for GSLV MkII, MkIII, and RLV-TD. He developed the 6D trajectory simulation software, SITARA, vital for real-time and non-real-time trajectory simulations.
Under his leadership, ISRO established a world-class simulation facility for mission synthesis and avionics system validation.
He pioneered a 'day-of-launch wind biasing strategy' for rocket launches in varying weather conditions and played a crucial role in the historic launch of 104 satellites in a single PSLV mission. Dr. Sivan's exceptional contributions have earned him awards and recognition, including an honorary Doctor of Science degree and numerous publications in esteemed journals and a book on space transportation system design.
